Chungas is one of the most underrated restaurants in Salt Lake City and the best authentic Mexican restaurant in Salt Lake City.
They're located in Rose Park and make some of our favorite Mexican food in the city. We love several of the menu items but noteworthy are the tacos al pastor- spit roasted marinated pork served with cilantro, onions, and sweet pineapple. The textures and flavors in combination will literally blow your mind. Skip the a la carte menu items and go straight for the molcajete on the "Especially de la Casa" menu- one of the best we have ever tried!
The carne asada, pollo asado, and camaron served in a green tomatillo and cactus sauce is simply delicious. Federico's Mexican Food is a regional chain with locations in Arizona and New Mexico. This family-owned restaurant is the west side location of the popular central Phoenix Mexican take-out market that has been feeding local Mexican food lovers since the 1970s. The Surprise location delivers the same homespun flavors and comfort food favorites that have earned Rito's a loyal following from local foodies for years. One of the house specialties is their green chile beef, a concoction of chunky beef drenched in green chile sauce that is more savory than spicy and very satisfying. Other specialties include chimichangas, tacos, bean burritos and cheese crisps. Whatever you order, chances it will be savory, beautifully seasoned and cheesy.

Caminero Mexican Food is a favorite of Mexican food lovers in Phoenix's northwest Valley. The family-owned restaurant serves a comprehensive menu of casual and craveable Mexican food that has turned many locals into regulars. You'll find everything from Phoenix workaday standards like carne asada burritos, to harder-to-find regional specialties like enchiladas suizas . This is a good place to seek out when you're craving an old-fashioned Mexican breakfast, too – the chilaquiles and "webos" rancheros are quite good.
Service is fast and friendly, and the shredded beef tacos are pretty much to die for. Great spot for restaurant quality Mexican in a walk up/carry out setting. Over the 20 years I've eaten here I've had many items on the menu and have never had a bad meal. Some of my favorite are the shredded chicken quesadilla, carne asada burrito and the nachos supreme.
Before they became one of our favorite restaurants in the city, this outstanding Malaysian spot originally operated solely as a takeout window. Jeepney is one of our favorite takeout windows in the city, especially when it comes to getting some late-night food. And even though hours have been reduced, this Filipino spot is still open until 10pm most days. All of the mains here come in the form of a sandwich, rice bowl, or loaded fries.
The best thing, though, is the marinated steak tapa with Velveeta. But if you're trying to eat more vegetables, the mushrooms with grilled paneer is also a winner. What started out as one of the city's first gluten-free Mexican food trucks is now one of Surprise's most interesting and exciting Mexican restaurants. On the menu, you'll find everything from a classic Mexican shrimp cocktail to chimis rancheras to vegan burritos stuffed with jack fruit, beans and pico. For a healthy twist on rice, try the restaurant's signature cilantro lime-rice cauli-rice. All the food at both locations is made fresh on a daily basis.
No canned or frozen guacamole is ever used. They are cooked everyday and taquitos are also rolled daily. This is why our food doesn't taste like fast food, it's not. Our customers enjoy the quality of our experience because we are not the typical food establishment. The tortillas are thick and homemade, the carne asada is seasoned with some delicious spices, and we still think longingly about the chorizo/potato/cactus taco filling. And if you like a cheesy burrito, Carmelo's sears cheese briefly on the flat top grill before adding it to the mix.
Rio Grande is housed inside the historic railroad station, originally built in 1910 and used for the Denver Rio Grand and the Western Railroad. Think cheesy tex-mex type entrees, all generous with the cheese and you have come to the right place. Our favorite menu is the Santa Fe enchiladas- layered blue corn tortillas filled with shredded beef and cheese, served with refried beans and rice. Visit Taqueria El Rey De Oros for some of the most delicious, flavorful, inexpensive pockets of Mexican heaven. They have a simple menu filled with tortas, burritos, and tostadas. But our absolute favorite option are the tacos and sopes .
Try this spot next time you're looking for one of the quick, easy, and inexpensive options for best Mexican food in Salt Lake City. You'll notice at least two taco carts on the corner of the ever deteriorating Sears. We've tried several taco carts in the Salt Lake Valley and feel like these are some of the best. The taco carts offer a variety of items including quesadillas, burritos, and such, but the best menu item across the board are the tacos with carnitas.
Success of the first restaurant led to two in Barstow, one in Needles, and a fifth restaurant in Corona (the first Del Taco with a drive-through window). Dick Naugle, who installed the kitchen equipment in the Corona store, was impressed by the design and joined Hackbarth and Jameson in the fledgling business. In 1966, the trio founded Red-E-Food Systems, Inc., with the idea of franchising the Del Taco brand. That same year, the original Del Taco sun logo was created. In 1967, Del Taco introduced their bean and cheese burrito with green or red sauce.

In 1973, the company dropped "Casa" from its name and Red-E-Food Systems became Del Taco, Inc. By that time, the company opened a new restaurant every month. In 1976, Hackbarth and Jameson sold Del Taco to a group of investors.
The new owners sold the exclusive rights to use and develop the Del Taco name throughout the US (excluding California; Eugene, Oregon; and Yuma, Arizona) to W. Grace, primarily a chemicals company, founded a new company, Del Taco Restaurants Inc. of Dallas, Texas, and a new subsidiary, DTG Inc., to oversee the fast food chains it was acquiring. In 1977 there were 50 Del Taco restaurants. Good food, quick service, a little too pricy for " fast food ", almost $11.00 for 3 tacos, small bag of chips and tea. It was a good experience opening this location North of Seattle. It was open for six years and then we decided to open up our third location in May, 2011 in Tacoma, WA. It was the first restaurant that had a drive-thru. We have been very happy serving authentic Mexican food such as soups, salads, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, seafood, and desserts. Good variety of things to choose from off the menu. However, I would prefer the use of non-styrofoam take out containers. All of our menu items are made to order with fresh ingredients.
Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant offers an upscale dining room to enjoy classic and modern Mexican dishes. The Peoria location is part of a regional chain, all of which are designed to evoke the romance and artistry of an open-air Mexican courtyard. On the walls, interpretations of famous murals bring the art and culture of Mexico to the dinner table. Thankfully, the restaurant's dishes also evoke a sense of artistry. Everything is made from scratch, with recipes based on Chef Luis Sanchez's family recipes.
Enjoy hand-rolled enchiladas, a full menu of Tex-Mex specialties, and plenty of made-from-scratch salsas, sauces and sides that add spice and flavor. In February 1989, Del Taco merged their restaurants with the 171 Naugles' Mexican fast food outlets. Anwar Soliman was instrumental in the move.
He was the mastermind behind the purchase of the rights to expand Del Taco throughout the US in 1977. With the merger, Del Taco increased in size, and spread as far east as Hickory, North Carolina. In the 1980s Del Taco began to stay open all night. In Lake Forest, California, there are two Del Tacos directly across the street from each other on Trabuco Road. The one with the Trabuco Road address was formerly a Naugles. In Orange, two Del Tacos are across the street from each other on Tustin Avenue.
The one with the Lincoln Avenue address was formerly a Naugles. A puffy taco is just like a regular taco, except the shell is part-tortilla, part-flotation device. They're perfect if you love corn tortillas but wish that they were just a little softer and fluffier.
Sexy Alley also sells tortas, burritos, and fun to-go cocktails in pouches. We could all use some mini Dutch pancakes and kebab wraps on homemade flatbread. That's what you can get from Miri's at Golden Gardens - they're operating a takeout window every day on the beach (weekdays from 12-7pm and weekends from 11am-7pm).
And if it's really hot out, you can cool off with a popsicle or slushie. You probably already know about Un Bien and the outstanding and very messy Caribbean roast pork sandwich. You should also know that one of their locations is near Golden Gardens, and makes for a great thing to pick up before socially-distant beach picnic. Make sure to get the fire-roasted corn as a side, and if you want something besides the roast pork sandwich, the grilled chicken is super tender and full of flavor. Mean Sandwich's takeout window is really more like a takeout doggie door, but if you ask us , it definitely counts.
This classic deli from an alternate dimension serves sandwiches like corned beef topped with maple syrup and mint or sardines with celery root slaw and lemon-pepper mayo. Not to mention they have some incredible deep-fried baked potato hunks. All you have to do is place your order online, show up to the front of the restaurant, and they will slide a crate with your food through the doggie door.
Many great things came from the invention of the window - curtains, Microsoft's logo, feeling a breeze while indoors, the boombox scene from Say Anything. But maybe the best byproducts are all of the takeout windows that restaurants have set up in Seattle. At first, we didn't know why there are so many walk-up windows in this town. But seeing as contact-free transactions are now a way of life, we're very glad to have them. If you'd like to grab something delicious without stepping foot into a restaurant, know that you have options . Featured on Guy Fieri's "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" and voted best fish tacos in the state of Utah multiple times.
We swoon over their lard fried tortilla chips and wouldn't pass up one of their fish tacos or quesadillas for anything. Great vibes and perfect for a grub stop after a long ski day in Big Cottonwood Canyon. A list on the best Mexican food in Salt Lake City wouldn't be complete without Lone Star. We are happy to rerort that despite recent change in ownership , the food still tastes fantastic and the changes in the restaurant and menu items are barely noticable.
